My copy of our book ParentPreneurs arrived in the mail this weekend. We made the announcement a couple weeks ago and, as usual, most people have looked at Brian and me like we have 3 heads and asked how in the world we had time to do this. Once I held it in my hands and saw it as a full-fledged book, all the feelings started pouring out. I had actually checked this off my bucket list! With my kids away at camp, I had the day to myself and made a warm cup of tea and retreated to my bedroom to completely devour our story.

A few hours later, I left the bedroom fully exhausted as I had just ridden through the 12-year journey of my life in those few hours. The highs, the lows, the confusion, the excitement…it was all there. Had Brian and I really written this book for the world to now read? Was this really happening?

When I wrote the book, I was writing the same way I would have written my journal. I was reflecting back on the years and giving you a sense of what was going on in my head and behind our closed doors concerning our business, marriage, and parenting. However, as an introvert who can experience social anxiety, putting yourself out there in this way can be super scary or downright horrifying. I guess over the weekend when I reread the book I started to realize this whole world inside my head was now going to be out there for all to read. What had I done?

However, the more I thought about my favorite books and the ones that have made the greatest impact on me, I realized they have been those books that are raw and real and you really can experience that ride with the person. I have especially loved books written by authors like Jodi Picoult where you get to see the different perspectives through different voices and realize that is exactly how our book is. I hope by Brian and I putting ourselves out there and really giving you that deeply personal view and perspective that we will truly inspire so many other parents to take that leap and do something different or new that will provide greater fulfillment…and to consider doing it with your spouse or partner and take the journey together. Because you too can be a ParentPreneur! If we can do it, so can you.
