I have always been a runner but once I started listening to audiobooks, it truly changed my life and made me look so much more forward to my daily run. I have always been an avid reader and love all sorts of books. Running gives me the ability to finally read again with my limited time and crazy schedule. I cannot tell you the last time I had the opportunity to sit back and kick up my feet and read a book since I had kids.
When spring and summer comes, I get through books super quickly as I can finally get outside to run. In the winter, I am stuck on the treadmill binge-watching Netflix or Hulu shows. Even if you are not a runner, you can listen to audiobooks this summer on long drives to make the time pass. This could also be the first step toward getting yourself outside for walks!
I have put together my list of recommended audiobooks for this summer below. Keep in mind that audiobooks differ from hardback books in terms of the elements needed to make them ‘work’. For example, the book needs a voice that keeps you engaged. Where the Crawdads Sing is all the rage right now but I could not get through the first run of it because the voice was southern and hard to understand and also very slow. I also need an audiobook that will pull me in quickly or I will never make it through the first run. Lastly, mystery and suspense books tend to be great for audio because they keep you guessing and wanting to keep listening to find out what happens.
There are many places where you can get audiobooks, but none better than your public library where they are FREE.
